Frans Hoek Lecture in Maui

“I have seen that if you prepare properly, success will follow.”

Preparing for a World Cup match is no easy feat. The meticulous details required to ensure success are endless and intricate, requiring the leadership of experienced professionals in this field. From coach meetings, player meetings, team meetings, planning tactics, analyzing the players, analyzing the opponent, and conducting training sessions, one must be capable of improvising and meeting any challenge that comes their way with a plan for how to conquer it – and that’s exactly what Dutch coach Frans Hoek spoke about when he recently presented a lecture to our Hawai’i soccer community. His speech was full of insight and ignited conversations regarding the current Hawaiʻi soccer environment and how it can be improved.

Frans Hoek is known for his enthusiastic attitude towards teaching and learning. In both, his approach to youth development and preparation for a World Cup match, he stressed the importance of planning, execution of the plan and evaluation. Both are tailored to meet the individual needs of the players and includes a clear set of competencies for the coaches. It is all about helping the players reach their full potential in their respective environment. As Frans Hoek himself said in his lecture, “I have seen that if you prepare properly, success will follow.”

We were delighted and honored to host Frans Hoek for this educational experience. We plan to have Frans back in the future to offer more educational opportunities for our soccer leaders and coaches in Hawaiʻi.
